Girls Cricket Team at NZ Cricket Nationals

Our Balmacewen girls cricket team had a fantastic experience at Nationals last week.

After winning the Otago/Southland competition back in Term 1, the girls cricket team qualified to play in the National Tournament at Lincoln University.  It was a fantastic tournament and the girls played their hearts out.  Our first two games were close losses against Raroa Intermediate and St Mary's.  The team played extremely well in very hot conditions, where both games easily could have gone the other way.

Day 2 saw us come up against Heaton Intermediate, the defending champions and eventual winners of the tournament again this year.  The girls didn't have the best batting innings but showed great character in the field to make Heaton work very hard for their win.  That afternoon we played Morrinsville Intermediate, deservedly winning that game by 40 runs.

Day 3 and the team saved their best performance for last, beating a very good Holy Cross team by 8 wickets.  It was an outstanding bowling and fielding effort by the whole team, and ensured a top four finish for Balmac.

Isy Parry, our captain, had an outstanding tournament and was named our team MVP.  Isy was well supported by Hannah Wilson and Abby Harris who both had very good tournaments too.  Our top wicket taker for the tournament was Gemma Rowcroft,  who had very impressive figures of 4 wickets for 5 runs in the Holy Cross game.

A huge thank you to our manager Anna Campbell and Matt Parry for their help and support at the tournament.
