The Balmacewen League team competed at the recent Southern Zone Y7-8 League Tournament.

On Saturday 14th November the Balmacewen League Team competed at the annual Southern Zone Y7-8 League Tournament held at Kettle Park.

An enthusiastic group of 18 Y7-8 Boys and Girls arrived at the venue ready for the big day ahead.  With 5 games, it was going to be tough.  First game we played against  a Central selection, losing 16-0.  Second game against Southland Boys was a game of 2 halves with the second half seeing Balmacewen doing all the attacking and scoring.  Southland had a a strong start however and we lost 24-10.  The last game saw us playing John McGlashan and it was a closer game but we lost 10-6.  The semi-final saw us playing John McGlashan again and a try held up in the final seconds saw us lose the game and a place in the final.

The Balmacewen team were fantastic players on and off the field and were an amazing group of players to spend a Saturday with. Big thanks to Mr Moaatane who stepped in and helped coach the team on the day, and Mr Hitchcock who coached at the school practices.

Four players made it into the Tournament team. Congratulations and well deserved to Captain George Bates, Josh Nevin and Xanthe Maole, and our Player of the Tournament Nasili Ikahihifo.
