Year 7 News

It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter for the year; it only seems like yesterday that our Year 7 students were walking through our gates on day one making their way anxiously to their new classes! Now, the end of their first year is almost over - and they are ready to take on the leadership and challenges as they move on to Year 8.
All classes have been working on their Term 4 PBL inquiry of pARTicipate - with our driving question - How can we use our skills and creativity to plan, create and participate in a class performance?
We were so impressed with the leadership shown by students in their class groups, the skills, talent and teamwork required to put together a range of activities and creative storytelling, what a talented group we have! It was a busy finish to our term but very successful! We look forward to many of them showcasing their talents again next year in our school production.
Another exciting highlight of this term was our Year 7 Sasa Festival that we had last Friday at our Year 7 Assembly. This involved all students learning a traditional Sasa followed by each class putting their own theme or spin into it and performing to our Assembly. From the beach to animals, instruments to dance moves and even Thomas the Tank engine made an appearance in the class sasas. It was great to see students stepping up to lead this and those who aslo learnt the drum beat to perform with their class. A video of the sasa is attached below.
As the year draws to a close, we would like to thank our Year 7 parent community and whanau for their ongoing support throughout the year. The Year 7 teachers are also really looking forward to watching our Year 7 pupils step up to be the leaders of the school in 2024 and we are excited to follow their progress! We hope they enjoy their summer break and come back refreshed and ready for another important and exciting year to finish their primary education.
I would also like to thank my hard working Year 7 teaching team and teacher aides that work alongside our students. Their commitment, time, energy and enthusiasm, as well as their ongoing support of each other and our students makes it a pleasure to be part of the Year 7 team.
Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all!
Lisa Dixon and the Year 7 team.
