Art Gallery and Street Art Walk!

Our term focus is IMPACT so at the Art Gallery we were looking at a number of artist's work that showed the use of recyclable products, paintings that reflected environmental IMPACT, looking at New Zealand native birds and how introduced species and hunting by Maori and Settlers impacted on their numbers or even now extinction of some our endemic birds. A great session of ideas with John Neumegen the Education teacher at the Art Gallery. This followed up with a session in the classroom creating artworks around the theme of "Cats and Birds" - are cats pests that need to be controlled?? This created some great art for our classrooms and we are also writing some persuasive arguments around the cat debate.
The second part of our day was the Dunedin Street Art walk. Here we were tourists in our own town and looking at the positive IMPACT the street art has had on our inner cities and buildings and in revitalising our city as well as creating another tourist attraction. At school we are going to be using the street art as inspiration for some writing and hopefully some artwork of our own.
