Team takes out 3rd title for 2024

Last Thursday 30 November in typical Dunedin summer weather at the Kensington Oval, the Tornadoes Year 8A Touch Team took on Taieri College in the Elite Boys Yr 7 and 8 Final. Wet and blustery conditions did not dampen the spirits of this hardy bunch. In fact they had the best warm up they've had all season, which in turn led to a fantastic display in slippery conditions.

This game was definitely a bit of an arm wrestle and the Tornadoes went out to a 2-1 lead at half time. They scored again early in the second half which gave us the breathing space the coach needed, however Taieri struck back in a determined effort and bought the score back to 3-2. Fortunately the Tornadoes dug deep and weathered the storm, holding Taieri out and ensuring we didn't have to go to a drop off in this final. This is the 3rd trophy these boys have secured with the season taking out: The Koru Games, The Kings Invitational Tournament and now the Dunedin Schools Comp. I am incredibly proud of how far these boys have come this year. They have been a fantastic team to coach.

I would like to make special mention of our award winners this season:

- Most Improved - Lucas Wharepapa

- Consistently displaying the PERK values - Tyler Lam

- MVP - our captain, Lennox Smaill

Well done boys. I hope to see you all continue your touch journey at secondary school and look forward to following your progress. Touch - What a game!
