We started the term with our Health unit on Puberty before moving into Hauora and Well being. Over the last few weeks all syndicates have been working on their PBL projects to complete our unit around Kotuitui - weaving storytelling and physical activities. This has looked slightly different for each syndicate. We have finished the PBL with clients from our contributing schools - Wakari, Maori Hill and Kaikorai- trialling our games and giving our students feedback. Some classes have also made shadow puppet movies and the link to some of these is attached to this article also.
Throughout the term we were also very lucky to have every class take part in weekly wellbeing sessions with Amy- our St John's educator. These sessions have been invaluable to run alongside our Balmac Way, focus on strengths, skills for managing emotions, Kindness, gratitude and most importantly being mindful. We hope she will be back next year!
Following on in our Health focus some classes have been looking at Nutrition with their student teachers. Room 3 created a special shared lunch focusing on health treats and some amazing main meals with curries, vegan sausage rolls, veggie filled spaghetti bolognaise, lamb burgers alongside some healthy muffins, dark chocolate tarts and smoothie bowls to name just a few! A recipe book is being created to share with our families.
We are looking forward to Term Four also with planning well underway for our last term. Our focus for Term Four is the ARTS - pARTicipate is our theme for the term and we will be looking at drama, dance, art, music and performance. Classes will be taking part in many workshops and ignitor sessions before planning their own performance as our PBL focus. We will also be looking at a storytelling fairytale twisted tales narrative writing unit. We have planned workshops with the RNZ Ballet educators also which is always a fantastic session. Our students will also be taking part in an end of year EOTC event - Long Beach Rock climbing and activity day.
Thank you again for your continued support of our students and staff - it appreciated by all. Have a safe and happy well earned holiday break.
