The years 8 students have been exploring maori waka use and construction. The year 7 students have been making picture frames and exploring maori design concepts with their key rings.

A fleet of waka have been built of many varieties - waka taua, waka tete, waka tiwai, waka hourua and a canoe waka. Students have researched the seven great waka learning about the discovery of Aotearoa and early settlement.

With making the picture frames students have learned about the history of plastic and many techniques for working it. The key ring project has been a good vehicle to help student to explore further potential of plastic using Maori design ideas to inspire their outcomes.
