School Council Update

In the second half of the year the Balmacewen School Council have continued to raise funds to support charities in our community that we feel are important. We have done a variety of things this year such as mufti days, coin trails and classroom collections. We have contributed to 5 different groups including MND NZ, Dog Rescue, The Cancer Society, Women's Refuge and the SPCA.
Check out some of the photos below to see some of this good work in action.
We also held a school disco early last term to raise money for things we can put back into the school. We purchased new nets for the basketball and football goals on the turf. We also bought sets of headphones for classes as well as containers of sunblock for all rooms.
As a group we think it is important to listen to and try to resolve issues around the school that affect our students. Some of the things we have done are:
- Working with the school council to make our school a safer place to be. We have created flyers which have been emailed to all parents and shared at assembly.
- Getting netball poles straightened and stabilised
- Getting nets for the basketball hoops and football goals
- Looking into areas where the sun affects our work in the learning streets
- taken groups of people around our school at things like the Open Night and Year 6 Orientation days.
Thank you to all councillors who have met weekly throughout the year and given up their time to help others. Thanks also to those deputies who have helped out this year as well.
