Great Success at Robocup Junior

On Saturday the 25th of June there was a competition held at Elim Church called Robocup Junior. Robocup is a competition where you can enter robot(s) in an event, the different events are : Theatre, Soccer or Search and Rescue. For more info on these events see these links:
Search and Rescue
Theatre
Soccer
You can enter any different type of robot you want, but there are size limitations for Search and Rescue and Soccer!
I entered Search and Rescue. At the competition it is almost guaranteed that something will go wrong with your robot and you will need to change something. I found that it is valuable to spend time making it quick and easy to adjust things on the day, so you don’t have to worry about accidently causing undesirable side effects.
It is important to start working on your entry early, so you have plenty of time for testing and problem solving (there’s plenty of it J).
Overall I think Robocup is a fun way to learn about robotics, programming and problem solving, with some competition added into it. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys technology and wants to improve their skills.

We had 8 students compete in the Junior Robocup competition:
BOM (Brooke, Oisin and Michael) placed 3rd in Junior Search and Rescue,
Liam placed 2nd in Junior Search and Rescue
Bill came 1st in Premier Search and Rescue.
Lara and Aaron had a few technical issues on the day and missed out on a place in Theatre.
Carrin also was unlucky in junior Search and Rescue
