Let us awake
As the city awakes
The last traces of day fading into liquid night
When the stars hide from the glow of the city
Let us awake
Let us breathe
As the darkness hides our faces
The subtle gold light illuminating our silhouettes
When no one recognises us
And we are freed from the ropes of etiquette, courtesy
When the chains of society snap and fall limply to rattle on the cold grey concrete-
Let us breathe
Let us run
As our feet pound over the pavement
The warm city breeze, scented with ocean, streaming through our hair
When our feet nearly lift off the ground
The closest we'll ever get to flying
Let us run
Let us laugh
As joy erupts through us
The kind of laugh that makes you warm and shivery
And we dance to the drum beat of an old time song
Let us laugh
Let us go
As we watch the blood red sun climb over the horizon, staining the sky like paper
The rosy light setting upon our faces
When we return to our jobs, our personalities, our responsibilities
Let us go
