Mihi Whakatau Writing

After taking part in the Mihi Whakatau Room 6 students created some moment in time writing. I was really impressed with their use of descriptive language to create imagery. Below is a selection of their writing.

I heard big powerful voices from the karanga girls sing loudly as their voices drifted off.

I saw bright red faces as the haka boys kept on slapping at their bright flaming hot thighs.

I felt the ground shaking like crazy doing the takahia vibrating the whole room.

I wondered if we will be able to do as good as them?

My legs felt weak with nerve, I wished my life could just fast forward past this.

I felt the pulsing vibrations course through me like an earthquake.

I heard the pounding haka shake the whole building

I saw the Year 8s puffing and trying their best, competing with others.

I wondered how we could ever compete with this?    Ryan

I heard the pounding of the haka boys feet against the gymnasium floor.

I saw the prideful boys standing proud slapping their thighs as their faces rose to the colour of blood

I felt tingles down my spine and adrenaline pumping through my veins

I wondered what it’ll be like in their position next year…Peyton

I heard a deafening ringing in my ears, of the last

beats of the haka. The moment the stopped was nothing,

silence and suddenly I felt all alone.

I saw faces of the year 8 ‘s rising to the colour of blood,

slapping their thighs passionately.

I felt the vibrations of their feet pounding the ground.

I felt my heart beating constantly in my chest. Feeling vulnerable.

I wondered if we were ever going to rise up to these standards?

I heard the year 8s pounding out the haka the takahia drumming into my heart

I saw the Year 8s standing tall looking proud eyes boring into me

I felt vulnerable Powerless but determined

I wondered if we could be just as strong as them? Toby
