Still the Same

In Room 10 we have been reading a story by David Hill call Still the Same.

This journal story is a series of letters that begin in the year 1858. The letters follow the same family writing back to England over numerous decades.

We explored the evidence from the text the text that showed what era the letter was written in. As a class, we made butter like they did in 1850's and learnt how to play knucklebones. We also found out a lot about different events in New Zealand history.

After we finished reading we brainstormed all the things that might be written about today. The students then wrote their own emails as the next letter in the story.
