Dear Parent/Caregiver,

Your child has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument at school this year. Tuition is provided by experienced tutors, mainly in small groups, during school time. Lessons last for 30 minutes and students are grouped together based on their ability – from beginners through to advanced.

Tuition is available in the following instruments:

Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Violin, Cello, Trumpet,

Trombone, Guitar, Kit Drumming, Piano, Electric Guitar,

Electric Bass, and Ultimate Music Theory.

Instrument hire:

Instruments need to be provided for lessons (except pianos and drum kits). The school has a small number of guitars and violins for hire at a cost of $60 for the year. Please do not pay any hire money to the school office yet – you will be invoiced later this term. Begg’s Musicworks and The Rock Shop have been useful places for students to hire other instruments from in the past. The rate for these can vary so it is worth checking out their websites for cost before committing to learning an instrument.

Fees:

This year lessons are being taught by a variety of providers who have different fee structures depending on group size and instrument. Please do not pay any lesson fees yet, invoices will be sent home once lessons are underway. Piano, Drumming, Theory, Guitar, and Bass Guitar invoices will be sent home via their itinerant music tutor, all other lessons will be invoiced by school for the full year fee. If you wish to pay this term by term please contact the school office to make the appropriate arrangements. Failure to pay fees when they are due will result in your child being unable to continue lessons.

Signing up for lessons is a commitment for the year, as we employ the tutors based on our enrolments, it is important that students commit for the year. Part or full fees may still need to be paid if a student is unable to continue for the year.

Orchestra:

Students who have been learning an instrument for at least two terms (at school or elsewhere) are encouraged to join our school orchestra at no cost. This and other music groups will be advertised in the daily notices soon.
