Room 23 are building a City!

As a class, we will design a city. We were put into a group within the class and chose our area that we were going to build. The city is split into five categories Suburbs, Sports and Rec, Tourist Attractions, Studentville and a Town, but your amenities are no bigger than a metre. After we drafted our certain areas with our buildings, road layouts and decorations, we were given a job within the group such as the tradie, graphic designer or event planner. We all work as a team to create a 3D city with a range of different resources which is realistic and practical as possible.

The Suburbs focus on building houses, schools and apartments which the residents live and learn in.

The Sports and Rec is a place where anyone from any age can get enjoy daily exercise, practice their sports and challenge other competitors to a game.

Tourist Attractions is where people from outside places travel to see the city's incredible landmarks.

Student Ville is where university students live, learn and socialise. This is where you will get a real look at what happens at uni.

Geometric cities are buildings planned on a sheet of card with rows of squares which the tradies then construct out of materials like card, paper and cardboard after drawing up each net. After that, the painters take over and paint the buildings as realistic and appealing as they can. After the painting is done the tradies will then hot glue the buildings on to the sheet of card which has the rows of squares. Once every building, road and grounds are created to their best ability the amenities are then joined and are officially a city. The Event Planners are in charge of advertising their area as if they were a real estate agent!

To me, Geometric Cities are a great way to teach students geometry but we are having fun at the same time. It has been great working with people I don’t usually work with so that I can further develop my collaborative skills. Now I feel more capable and I actually look forwards to maths!
