Keeping in Touch

This term has seen Balmacewen having  success in mixed, girls and boys teams at the Kensington Oval Junior Touch Module.

With 4 girls, 6 boys and 1 mixed team playing down at the oval it has been a fabulous term for touch at Balmacewen.  All the teams have shown spirit and fair-play whether they won or lost. The weather hasn't been on our side this term with 3 days lost to rain. Thank-you to the fantastic staff,  and parents who have been involved as a coach, manager or referee.  Big Thanks to the ex-Balmacewen students who have come back and reffed our teams this term.

Another thank-you to the  Balmacewen Referees.  Some great games were officiated by them yesterday with some thrilling finals. Ronan Dynes controlled the Y3-4 Finals with it going into extra time. Sam Donaldson also had a close game in the Y5-6 Boys final.

We had 4 teams playing in finals yesterday and some great games being played in the sun that finally decided to come out. The Mixed team played Outram in the mixed final. A great game with Balmacewen the winners 6-3.  The Tornadoes (Boys 8A) played another great game but going down 4-2 to John McGlashan in the Boys Final, and Thunder (Boys 7A) coming third against Tahuna 8A.  The Panthers Girls 8A played KVC in the Girls Final  with both teams unbeaten it was shaping up to be a great game.  It didnt disappoint.  The Panthers had 4 touchdowns scored against them.  (This was the total number of  touchdowns scored against them all term.)  Panthers winning 9-4.  Awesome effort Girls.

Congratulations to our Balmacewen Students who made the Otago Squads playing in the South Island Junior Tournament next weekend.  We have a number of players in the U12, U14 Boys, Girls and Mixed teams. Miss Smart is coaching the U14 Girls, and 2 students have also been selected to referee at this tournament.  Good Luck to you all.
