Kia Ora Parents and Caregivers
What a surreal term we have just experienced. From our online learning programme to a second physical beginning of the school year. It was certainly a once in a 100-year experience. Both teachers and students definitely prefer the face to face joy of learning within our wonderful school.
Our integrated theme this term was “Ka Mua, Ka Muri!” This is a whakatauki (proverb) that means "walking backwards into the future" - the idea we should look to the past to inform the future. It was a fitting phrase to debrief the covid19 experience and it's impact. This philosophy formed the basis of our project-based learning activities which resulted in sharing activities on a website, pursuing a passion, or creating a covid19 survival resource. All students look forward to sharing these with you.
It was a superb day at the Edgar Centre today. Each class was split into 3 equal teams and they played 8 games (basketball, volleyball and futsal) against all other classes. It was a grand opportunity to implement the large ball skills we have been learning this year. All teachers were suitably impressed with the display of teamwork and fair play skills. Congratulations to all participants on a fantastic day.
Yesterday we handed out prospectuses to Otago Boys, Otago Girls and Kings High School. We have limited numbers for the other high schools. These are held in the school office and these can be collected by the students at any time.
We wish everyone a relaxing and safe break.
