Balmacewen vs Taieri College Match Report
A beautiful sunny day out at Taieri College, both teams were in good spirits and ready to do battle.
Balmacewen won the toss choosing to field first with captain Reicher Barnes showing strong leadership from the start setting the field. It wasn't long before Balmacewen had their first wicket bowled by Charlie MacDonald edged and caught by Mikey Hart. The second wicket came clean bowled by the captain. Up stepped Myles Nicol bowling with accuracy and pace to take two wickets LBW. Balmacewen were on a roll but Taieri were not giving up and continued to push runs with a few boundaries adding to the run rate. Gritty determination in the field saw the first run out of the game shortly followed by a catch from Myles and clean bowled by Fletcher Ewing. Into the mix came Ted 'lionheart’ Larking and after a nervous and slightly shaky start composing himself combining with a sharp and focused Mikey to take two wickets stumped. Taeiri all out for 90 runs.
Balmacewen went in to bat and a confident start from Charlie MacDonald hitting boundaries before being bowled by Will T. Ethan Hand hitting a boundary before being clean bowled again by Will T. Step in Reicher who combined with Mikey showing good running between wickets and some boundaries to get the runs up. However both lads being caught Taieri could sense a shift in momentum with Jacob showing some class bowling for Taieri taking easy wickets. Balmacewen were in trouble with our last two batters Ted and Jayson. Balmacewen needed one run to win. A consistent bowling performance kept Jayson pinned down and on strike. Patient defensive shots allowed Jayson to wait for his opportunity, batting the ball only a short distance and running to narrowly make it home for the win.
A close game in the end and a great display of skill and sportsmanship from both teams. A huge thank you the organisers at Taieri College for hosting.
