Year 7 news May 2016

We are three weeks into Term 2, read on to find out what is happening for the Year 7 team.

The Year 7 classes are a hive of activity with chemical reactions investigations happening and other science investigations too.  The learning  that is happening is a springboard into developing questioning skills, making clear observations, thinking like a scientist as well as being able to write up and follow a scientific method.

Classes have made hokey pokey, seen chemical reactions occur when an acid is mixed with a base and felt and observed a change of state with cornflour and water as well as many more investigations.  As always, some really fantastic what if we did this? type of questions are taking the investigations further and classes are having rich and meaningful discussions.

All classes are off to the new planetarium at the Otago Museum next week. Our focus here is learning about the night sky during Matariki.  This should be a new and exciting trip  as the Planetarium has only been open a few months.  We were also scheduled to visit Arai te Uru Marae in Week 6 however the trip has been cancelled by the Marae.  We are endeavouring to reschedule and we will let you know as soon as we can.

A date for your diary coming up next month is the parent meeting regarding our Term 3 focus of Pubertal Change - Positive Puberty.  More information will be sent home via email closer to the time however  the date is as follows:  June 28th 6:00pm - 6:30pm.

As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher to discuss any concerns or queries that you may have.

Thank you for your support.

Beth Downie and the Year 7 Team.
