Year 7 News

We have completed our work on ANZAC and moved into the really busy part of our PBL planning. We began our Hooked on Science unit with lots of fun experiments that students could do at home also. This term began with a bang with our guest presenter Amadeo who presented an engaging and informative science show for our students. His focus was on asking questions, wondering about the world around us and thinking like scientists. Scribble bots, Hokey Pokey, Marble Runs, Exploding Canisters! Our classrooms have been a hive of activity as we explore and discuss different areas of science and the science behind these ignitor activities.
Over the next few weeks students will begin the process of learning about how to design and plan their own science shows. Our project is to create engaging science shows targeting younger students Students have now all come up with a science concept or questions they think their audience will enjoy and are busy researching the science, writing show plans and scripts before starting to rehearse and practice before performing to a live audience.
As we return to school for this term we have also reflected and reset our Balmac way and school values. There is an emphasis in all classes on our Super Skills - on being organised and ready to learn and working collaboratively. It has been fantastic to see how our Year 7 students continue to grow and develop in these areas and this has been reflected in our classrooms and playgrounds.
Last week the Year 7 students also enjoyed a morning at the Edgar centre where Polytech students planned and ran skills based sports sessions. This was a great morning of exercise and skill development. This also coincided with 'Pink Shirt" day where we encouraged our students to wear pink to support the anti bullying and kindness message across our school and wider community.
We look forward to the rest of this term.
