Year 7 Term 4 news

Another busy and exciting term is under way and this term it's all about dance and drama!

The Year 7 team have been immersing themselves in all things dance and drama in order to focus on our unit of work Communication through the arts.  We have had some excellent and high profile guest speakers visit us in order to ignite the minds of our learners.
Bruce Potter is one of New Zealand's most well known authors and artists.  He took all children through a 90 minute workshop discussing what creativity can look like, how to be more creative and the power of doodling! His website is http://www.brucepotter.co.nz and it is certainly worth a visit.

Stu Duval was another of our guest speakers.  He magically weaved the threads of a story together using a sound track in the back ground, voices, accents and of course a wonderful plot. He captured our minds and imaginations and  his visit was a wonderful springboard into narrative writing.  His website is http://www.studuval.co.nz

We were also very lucky to have an educator from the Royal New Zealand Ballet visit us to hold 90 minute workshops with each class.  All children now know that ballet is hard work and requires a high level of fitness and flexibility!  Pagan taught the children to listen and interpret the music and create movements that can tell a story.

All these visitors and guests have provided the children the opportunity to think creatively about telling a story.  All Year 7 classes will be working on a performance that is the story of their class.  Exciting times ahead!

In two weeks time when hopefully the weather is warmer, we are heading to the St Clair surf club for a day learning about beach education, surf safety and water activities.  Being beach and water aware is so vital for all New Zealanders' and we are excited to be able to provide this opportunity to all Year 7 pupils.

The Year 7 team  have a busy 5 weeks ahead of them with plenty of exciting learning opportunities and as always we thank you for your ongoing support of our Year 7 programme.

Beth Downie and the Year 7 team.
