Girls Cricket

Having been unbeaten through the first three rounds we qualified for the final against Taieri College.
This was played in blustery conditions at Bishopscourt and the girls were excited to have the home field advantage. Unfortunately we were one player down with Kaylea injuring herself on camp last week. We batted first and after an early wicket Caitlin and Megha put on a 59 run partnership. This was followed by another great partnership of 47 by Megha and Kate. We finished on 137 off our 20 overs with Megha top scoring with 68 not out.
We got off to a great start in the field with Gemma getting a wicket with her first ball. This was followed by some very tight bowling by Kate and Megha. After two decent partnerships by Taieri we were stopped by a brief rain delay. Coming back onto the field the girls bowled and fielded well, with Megha, Gemma and Rowan getting wickets. Some excellent fielding also got us 3 run outs and Taieri were all out for 73. A 64 run win for Balmac!
The girls should be extremely proud of their efforts as they have all stepped up throughout the tournament and were fantastic representatives of Balmacewen. Now that we’ve won the regional tournament we’re all excitedly looking forward to going to the national tournament in November. This is our fourth year in a row qualifying for this tournament. Well done girls!
