THAT WAS SUMMER

Remember looking down

the steep, jagged rock face

at the crystal blue water below,

ready to jump?

Remember running around the garden in the hot sun,

And afterwards, smelling your hot, sweaty feet

after taking your shoes off?

Yuck!

Remember tasting the thick sticky ice cream

after licking the melting treat

off your arm?

Wishing you had eaten it earlier?

Remember hearing the sizzly, crackly sound

of the sausages being cooked alive

by the monstrous barbecue? Their arch-nemesis.

Remember feeling the slap of the water, after flipping off your surfboard?

Coming back to the surface, gasping for air.

Brain freeze. Turning your head into a snowy ice berg?

Your chin quivers. You start to warm back up as you step back onto the hot sand,

your surfboard by your hip,

the sun shining on your pink skin.

That was Summer.

By Ollie

That was Summer

Remember when? You stood on the ferry, the views and vastness awe inspiring. The cold breeze of the South inviting you in, as the ship cut through the water like a knife through water. The North still visible as the South came into sight. The cool depths give way to icy waters.

The vast green as if the hills had hair

That was Summer.

Harry

Summer

Remember that time

When the engine of the Jetski was almost roaring at you

Like a dinosaur gently bouncing you up and down

Almost telling you to go

Remember soaring through the water

Jumping over the waves going as fast as you can

Then hitting a gigantic swell in the water

And getting enough air to last your lifetime?

Remember slipping of the back?

That was Summer

Fletcher

That Was Summer

Remember that time when

When you were lying in the hammock,

The calm breeze rocking you side to side

And flowing through your body,

Making you shiver

Birds singing you their lullabies

The sun tickling your toes

Sending you to sleep
