Message from the Principal

It is time to draw a breath and reflect on the many highlights throughout the year and to recognise the fantastic achievements of our students.

Kia ora koutou

It really doesn't seem that long ago that we welcomed students into Balmacewen at the start of the year.  Since then, our year has been filled with high energy, enthusiasm and excitement. Our programmes and activities have provided students with many learning opportunities in which to learn and grow.

The growth in our students across these pivotal two years of education is immense and as teachers we have a privileged view of children's development.  It's wonderful to see our students develop new skills and understandings over this time. The Year 8 students who are leaving are very different to the shy and slightly nervous children who arrived two years ago!

I take this opportunity to thank our departing Year 8’s and wish them all the very best for their transition to high school. I am certain they will all continue to build on the excellent foundation established at Balmacewen. Our current Year 7’s are already eyeing up leadership opportunities for next year and I look forward to seeing them continue the tradition of Balmacewen excellence.

Thank you to all who have contributed to our school this year. Camps, sports coaching and class trips are all are reliant on parent support. Without this support many of our programmes would not be possible.

I wish to thank the dedicated and hard-working staff of Balmacewen. Their commitment and energy is much appreciated and valued. They create the atmosphere and environment for which our school is renowned. They regularly go above and beyond what is expected, solely for the benefit of our students.

Thank you also to our excellent Board of Trustees for their support and guidance throughout the year. Their astute governance provides the solid foundation for our school's success and ensures that Balmacewen is well resourced for the future.

Our Prize giving Assembly will be held on Friday 14 December at 11.00am at the More FM Arena. This is a celebration of achievement and personal endeavour and a fitting way to end our school year. Students will be released following the assembly at approximately 12.15pm.

To all the Balmacewen Intermediate community, I hope you find time to relax, refresh and enjoy some quality time with family and friends. I wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas.

Kind Regards

Andrew Hunter
