Year 7 news 

This term for our Year 7 pupils, learning is based around the concept of Belonging to a community and the roles and responsibilities within our communities.  Our Year 7 pupils were warmly welcomed by our Year 8s during the Powhiri last Friday and it began our learning about becoming a Balmacewen community.  All of our visits outside of the classroom link into this theme also.  All classes will be visiting Toitu and the Chinese Gardens and completing a heritage walk around our fabulous city.  

One of the highlights on the Year 7 calendar are our camps - these begin next week.  Each class spends two nights at CYC Waihola. This is where classes really come together as a class community and we see in action all the school values in a setting a little different to a classroom.  We will be enjoying a tramp on the Taieri River track, awesome flying fox experiences, archery and target shooting, team building activities and general all round camp fun! It is fabulous to see many Year 7 pupils joining  sports teams, learning an  instrument,  becoming a class librarian, PE monitor or class councillor   - this is one way to become involved in many of the opportunities that are available to our Balmacewen pupils.  We all know that when we try  something new and embrace challenges we are on our way to helping develop our growth mindset - and having a growth mindset is one of the Balmac Super Six!

It was great to meet so many of you at our recent meet the teacher evening.  We are looking forward to having more in depth and personal discussions about your child's learning experiences during parent - teacher interviews in Week 8. You will receive an email to book a time slot in the upcoming weeks.
