Fabrics - Year 8 Screen Printing

All students can decide on their own design once they understand positive and negative spaces and have had a go at using all of the necessary tools. It is quite challenging cutting acetate with a nice smooth edge. Fine motor skills, a growth mindset and perseverance help.
It is vital to work with a learning partner when printing. We use squeegees, silk screens, fabric ink, framing and backing paper and a thorough checklist that pairs use to minimise mistakes. There are important "teacher check in" (TCI) points to make sure all students can be successful.
Overall, our Year 8 students enjoy developing their understanding of this process. There are many opportunities to grow as a learner. Pausing to reflect when mistakes are made is a healthy part of any learning process. We hope our students can become Aware, Honest and Responsible for their own learning journeys.
