What's hot in the Kitchen with the Year 8s?

The year 8's have finished off the term by making ice-cream, icing biscuits and having a mystery box competition judged by their class teachers. Yummy smells and lots of giggles have been had in the foods room over the past few weeks.
The ginger, chocolate or vanilla biscuits were made and iced, and with over 150 cutters to choose from there were some amazing biscuits . No two were alike!
The ice-creams were a big hit with most liking another group's flavour. Mango was a popular choice as was caramel this term. Some interesting combinations were made as the students were choosing their flavours. We also played with chocolate, learning how to mould and pipe chocolate.
But the best was yet to come with the Mystery Box. Students picked a table number from the hat so all partnerships were split up and the food was randomly spread out. Each table group got a carbohydrate and protein, and vegetables or fruit depending on whether they had a savoury or sweet option. Decisions were made and 1 hour later they produced a plate of food. Cheesecake, tarts, pizza, tacos and steak stack were all made. The teachers had some tough choices to make!
