Our
integrated theme this term is called “Wonderment.” The 2 key questions we will focus on are…
- Can I make sense of the world around us?
- Can I Prove It / Make It /Create It?
The key feature of this term will be the science fair investigations. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to direct their own learning. Selecting a topic they are interested in is a key motivating factor with this. The students will be encouraged to display a mature work ethic to take responsibility for their learning. Thank you for your support so far with this activity, it is clear that when school and home work together that your child’s learning is enhanced. We look forward to the opportunity to view the finished products.
Our Year 8 camping programme at Berwick is well and truly up and running. Next week will see Room 15 disappear to enjoy their week at camp. This outdoor experience is sure to be a major highlight of your child’s time at Balmacewen. A very special thanks to all adult helpers for your assistance in running our camps.
All classes are involved in fitness training at the moment. We have a number of dry and wet weather courses that your child will run. The goal is to run the length of NZ, completing physical challenges at major cities and towns along the way. With the cross country next term the students will be well and truly ready.
To celebrate NZ music month we are holding weekly Year 8 assemblies to appreciate numerous NZ musicians and artists. This week our focus is hits of the 60s and 70s. The classes are engaged in weekly quizzes where they are competing for the Year 8 music title. So if your child is listening to hits from your youth then that is the reason why.
King's High School is holding an academic evening on Tuesday the 30th of May in their school library. This is an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to learn about the programmes and culture that are driving academic excellence at King's High School
