Tau 7 Korero

We started the term with our Health unit on Puberty before moving into Hauora and Well being. Over the last few weeks all syndicates have been working on their PBL projects. This has looked slightly different for each syndicate. We have had many guest speakers, workshops and a whole range of Hauora based classroom activities throughout this topic.
Our driving question was to look at a client base and what we could do to improve their wellbeing. Some classes looked at the students themselves as clients to make some changes to their own lives to promote their wellbeing, and then extended this to their families. Alongside this some classes produced a Health and Wellbeing magazine - the links to some of these are below.
Room's 1, 3, 4 and 25 focused on the students as the clients looking into their own wellbeing and setting some goals to make a change to top up on areas they had identified. Students set goals such as less screen time, drinking more water, using relaxation apps, trying yoga and ways to relax and take time out. Students monitored their progress over a few weeks and reported back to their class. They also created family wellbeing challenges to enhance the family social wellbeing. To celebrate this PBL families were invited into a night at school to take part in a range of fun family activities to enhance wellbeing and we also had a potluck dinner - check out the other article in this newsletter.
Room's 2 and 26 focused on community groups such as the Firemen as their clients. With everything going on with the firefighters, Room 2 & 26 wanted to make a difference to their wellbeing. They made some awesome projects that were very well received by our fire fighting experts! This is what each group made:
Social group Basketball hoop & hole in one game
Spiritual group
Model of a suitable wellbeing area
Video to educate people
Mental/emotional group
Oils that they can burn to help them relax/sleep
Podcast on what can help your mental health
Physical group
Cookbook Last Friday these were presented to the Firemen who were extremely impressed with the products the classes had made for therm.
The back block of Room's 9.10 and 11 have had Health Care workers as their client as we are aware of how much pressure they are currently under. They had a panel of experts to speak to their syndicate including a GP (Doctor), Paediatric Nurse, Physiotherapist, a Plunket Worker and Public Health nurse. This gave a great insight for designing our products. The students have come up with a range of resources and activities including sleep apps, fitness kits, care packages and much more. These will be delivered to some of our Healthcare professionals on Friday.
We are looking forward to Term Four also with planning well underway for our last term. Our focus for Term Four is the ARTS - pARTicipate is our theme for the term and we will be looking at drama, dance, art, music and performance. This ties in perfectly with our school Production a highlight for many. We will also be looking at a storytelling narrative writing unit . We have planned workshops with the RNZ Ballet educators also which is always a fantastic session. Our students will also be taking part in an end of year EOTC event - Long Beach Rock climbing and activity day.
Thank you again for your continued support of our students and staff - it appreciated by all. Have a safe and happy well earned holiday break.
