It's been a busy week of trips that have been supporting our Turangawaewae unit of work.

At Toitu we learnt about the communities that have impacted on Dunedin's history.  We learnt about Pre European settlers of Aotearoa, how the land was used and the amazing technology of weaving and story telling and the impact this had on who we are as a country today.

We looked at the Scottish arrival into Dunedin and the challenges that our landscape provided the immigrants and the impact they had on shaping Dunedin.

We then moved on to investigate the Chinese gold miners and the struggles that they faced while on the gold fields, followed by the large impact they had on  the Dunedin community. This was followed up by a visit to the Chinese Gardens. A really beautiful and serene garden to remember the Chinese miners.

It was a great day out for us all.
