Year 7 news - June and July 2015
By Beth Downie | Posted: Wednesday August 19, 2015
This term the children of Year 7 are learning all about the body and change and ways to cope with change.
All pupils have visited the Anatomy Museum to look more in-depth about body systems. This trip is very special as the museum is not open to the public and I know all pupils asked some well thought out and creative questions to widen their knowledge about the body.
Classes have started their visits to the Dunedin Public Art Gallery where the workshops have varied from looking at art works and creating art with a healthy eating focus, emotional portraits and a sculpture challenge. It is always amazing to see the art work they create in such short amounts of time.
All classes are training for this week's cross country with many extending their training to run the children's marathon. We have been marking on a map on the Dunedin marathon course every time we run for fitness and the goal is to run 40km by September 13th. The children involved will run the final 2.2km around Logan Park and finish up at Forsyth Barr Stadium on the day of the Dunedin marathon. It is an exciting event to be involved in - well done to all those children who have taken up this opportunity.
We have trips to Long Beach for rock climbing coming up in the next few weeks. The rock climbing is run by Dave Brash and the team at Dunedin Rock climbing LTD. This is a highlight for the Year 7 children as they challenge themselves to complete something they often have never done before and the sense of achievement and success they feel.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the Year 7 team.
