Fabrics - Year 8

All students will use polar fleece and a combination of hand sewing and machine sewing techniques to create their Softie. The exciting part is that students have chosen how they would like their Softie to Function. For example - some students are happy with a soft toy; others are working on developing doorstops or desk mates; a few are trying to create wheat bag covers and 1 ambitious student has designed a puppet.
The technological process here is the most valuable part for the student. They have to create their own paper templates and trial them to see if they function correctly. This prototype gives them the ability to seek feedback and change their designs so they can achieve their desired outcome. There is a huge amount of problem-solving and persevering happening in our Year 8 classes.
Students also take time to do some functional modelling of the sewing techniques they will use on their design. It is encouraging seeing students doing some peer teaching and collaborative learning.
I cannot wait to see the final outcomes!
