Wearable Arts

This year I did WEARABLE ARTS with my friend Lucy Jackson. We entered the ‘Fantasy’ section, and our design was called: The Children Of The Book. We were inspired to do this design because most kids these days have stopped reading books and have started using their technology more often.

Lucy’s dress was created from cardboard cut into the shape of an hourglass, and newspaper stuck onto the cardboard. An old curtain with chalk letters made her flowing cape. An eye mask completed her outfit.

The top half of my tuxedo was made by sticking newspaper to a 2nd hand jacket and then creating tails with newspaper. My pants and shirt had letters painted on using stencils. My mask was paper mached with dried flax flowers attached representing quills that were used to write with in the dark ages.

On the night you could tell everyone was nervous and in a crowded space that is not helpful. But everyone had fun, and the audience appreciated all of our efforts. To top it off, Lucy & I got Highly Commended in our section!
