Looking for cardboard and plastic containers

By Sara Quelch | Posted: Sunday December 10, 2017
We would love to have your cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, Christmas paper rolls, egg cartons, ice cream containers etc for some exciting projects we have lined up next year...

Dear Parent(s)/Caregiver(s),

The Hills Cluster of schools — Balmacewen Intermediate, Halfway Bush School, Kaikorai Primary School, Maori Hill School and Wakari School — are the first beneficiaries of the Otago Community Trust’s Innovation Fund. Our focus for this fund is Project Based Learning outcomes based on innovating with technology.

In the modern age we tend to associate the word technology with digital devices. Understanding creative and innovative applications of these devices will form an aspect of the project but there will also be a focus on practical, hands-on project based learning using a range of technologies such as cardboard and sellotape.

To support the learning we are sending out an early request for everyday resources which we would like you to funnel towards the schools rather than your recycling bin. We would greatly appreciate if you could please collect the following over the school holiday break:

  • Lightweight card boxes, eg. cereal boxes

  • Cardboard boxes (the My Food Bag boxes are a perfect weight for much of the work we’ll be doing)

  • Egg cartons

  • Cardboard tubes

  • Ice Cream Containers

  • Milk bottle caps

Kind regards,

Phillipa Dick
