Year 7 Poetry

By Lisa Dixon | Posted: Tuesday August 23, 2022
Over this term our Year 7 classes have been working on poetic writing tying this in with emotions. Here are a few of our poems. Some are modelled from the poem "If I were a Storm" by Katie Boom and the others use the senses to develop imagery around an emotion.

Fear is a Pale Blue abist that you walk into unknowingly.

Fear tastes like - A freezing cold biter sour lemonade, snatching your breathe in an instant causing your brain to throb in pain.

Fear feels like - A staunch pair of eyes glancing at you, watching your every move, sending chills down your spine, as you look around frantically failing to see anything abnormal.

Fear sounds like - The howling wind through neighbourhoods and down streets as you walk all alone speeding up your pace and not daring to look back, blood curdling cries and screams shatter your ear drums.

Fear smells like - A sticky bitter smell of sweat dripping down your face burning the inside of your nose.

Fear Is your worst enemy.

Excitement

Excitement is the colour of a dancing rainbow prancing across your eyes.

Excitement tastes like flavoured popping candy in your mouth exploding across your tongue.

Excitement feels like butterflies fluttering around your stomach trying to break free.

Excitement looks like winning the game with a last second score your team cheering you on.

Excitement sounds like a bustling theme park and the sound of winning prizes.

Excitement is like the start of a new year

Sad is the colour of a grey city

Sad tastes like flavorless gum lying at the bottom of your dry mouth

Sad feels like tight muscles hardly able to move as you wake up on gloomy morning not wanting to get out of bed

Sad sounds like a lonely trumpet echoing on the mountain tops

Sad looks like a dead fish lying on a lonely white plate

Sad smells like rotten corps lying on the silent battlefield after a deadly war

Sad can't be shut out it will always be with you but you learn how to control it

IF I WERE A STORM

I WOULD SPREAD DARK CLOUDS ACROSS THE LAND.I WOULD SEND LOUD CRASHES OF THUNDER THROUGH YOUR HEAD.I WOULD BLAST HUGE BOLTS OF LIGHTNING FROM MY ELECTRIC HANDS.I WOULD RIP ROOFS FROM HOUSES AND BURN TREES TO ASH.I WOULD HURL GIANT BALLS OF ICEAND FREEZE ALL THE RIVERS AND LAKES.I WOULD WATCH OVER ALL OF THE DESPICABLE THINGS I HAVE DONE.WHEN THE CLEAN UP BEGINS, I DRIFT AWAY AND LET THE SUN TAKEOVER.

BY JACK TOOMER

If I were a storm...I would devastate trees with my lightning strikesI would crash trees into your houses with my dangerous windsI would let out all the pain out by crying till i've made floodsI would swoop all the crops and trees with my devastating windsI would drive my waves into your precious city I would make the best of my time for all too soon the sun will peep out and I’ ll be on my weary way ....By Jason

IF I WERE A STORM,I WOULD SHOOT BULLETS OF HAIL DOWN AT CARS CRASH,I WOULD MAKE TREES BEND OVER LIKE AN OLD LADY STRUGGLING INTHE WIND,I WOULD CRY MY SWEET SALT TEARS OUT AND FLOOD THE CITYI WOULD CAST SPELLS OF ECHOING THUNDER,WHILE I COULD FOR ALL TOO SOON I WOULD PICK UP MY BLACK FLUFFY DRESS AND DRIFT AWAWY INTO THE NIGHT SKY.
