Toitu & Chinese Gardens

What a fantastic day Room 26 had at our beautiful Toitu Museum and the Chinese Gardens.
As part of our 'BELONGING' unit Room 26 went to Toitu to look at a number of different communities who settled and belonged in the Dunedin area.
First we looked at the early settlers and how Dunedin was formed. It was fantastic to have a walk around Dunedin and look at some of our first buildings and see the connection we have all those years later.
Our second part of the day was looking at the Gold Rush and how the Chinese came to settle in the Dunedin region.
It was a worthwhile trip and really nice to make the connections and look at our local history. Thank you to those parents who helped out for the morning. Students took a number of photos and I have uploaded those to hopefully generate some discussion.
